Greetings:
As Mayor of this great City of Moss Point, Mississippi, I am delighted to showcase our World Class River City which was established on the Great Gulf Coast of Mexico in 1901. Thank you for visiting Moss Point’s website to learn more about our community. We are a petite picturesque river city of 14,000 people, 35 miles east of Gulfport, Mississippi and 30 miles west of Mobile, Alabama. Some of our folks call Moss Point a rough diamond, a true jewel with potential to shine.
Hurricane Katrina was a double-edged sword for us. On the one hand the storm was devastating. On the upside, it attracted a great deal of helpful attention. Moss Point was awarded a Katrina Supplementary Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help us rebuild and revitalize the City. Our progress is dynamic. Moss Point has a new central fire station, a new city hall and we’ve revitalized our downtown riverfront park and main street landscape. The next step, using CDBG funds, is a new police department building.
As City leaders, our primary goal is to provide quality service at an economical cost even in our nation’s daunting economy. We are focused on this goal and, in keeping with the citizens of Moss Point, we are resilient. Quality of life issues are being assessed, prioritized and addressed to ensure public health, safety and welfare. Understanding that a vibrant and sustainable community is one that encourages a sense of place, we encourage collaboration, face-to-face communication and sharing points of view. Citizen engagement and accountability are paramount.
We have a lot of long-term work to do in Moss Point’s rebuilding process. To set the stage for it, citizens and City leaders will work together to envision our community’s future. Then, working together, we will develop a five-to-ten year strategic plan to achieve our vision. I ask for your input as well as your patience in this complex governmental undertaking. Moss Point is poised for a great future and even brighter days are ahead for us.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve the great City of Moss Point. We are on the move. Let’s all share the good news.
Sincerely,
ANEICE R. LIDDELL, MAYOR
