Absentee Voting

If you know that you will be voting absentee, contact your Circuit or Municipal Clerk at least one month before the election for more information.

If you are unable to vote at the precinct on the day of the election you may be able to vote absentee ballot. For Municipal Elections contact the City Clerk's office for more information and deadlines to vote absentee. For County, State and National Elections contact the Circuit Clerk's office.

An elector may cast an absentee ballot in person at the registrar's office during the 45 day's advance voting period of Monday through Friday of the week immediately preceding the date of the election for the following reasons. No absentee ballots can be cast at the registrar's office on the Monday preceding an election.

Absentee Voting Requirements


You may vote by absentee ballot in person if you: (Check with Circuit or Municipal Clerk for additional guidelines).
  • Will be absent from your precinct from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on election day.
  • Are 65 years of age or older.
  • Have a physical disability or you are a constant caregiver of a person with a disability.
  • Have medical or work demands.
  • Are an election official.
  • Are observing a religious holiday which prevents you from voting in person.
  • Are required to remain on duty in your precinct for the protection of life, health, or safety of the public.
  • Are going to be out-of-town on business or vacation.
  • Are military out-of-state or country.

Voter ID Requirements


A photo ID showing current name and address is required at the polls for all first time voters who registered by mail and has not previously provide a copy of ID.

Acceptable forms of ID include:
  • Bank Statement
  • Paycheck - Government Check - Other government document that shows the name and address of the voter.
  • Utility Bill
If no ID, vote a provisional ballot. Ballots are then counted on Election Day, so there is no period of time after casting a provisional ballot with which to prove identity, unless the voter returns to the polls with ID later that same day.
