1. How do I report a crime or accident?

f it is an emergency dial 911 and you will get help right away. If it is not an emergency, please call 228-475-1711 and inform the dispatcher that you need to report an incident, accident or crime. The dispatcher will dispatch an officer to meet with you.

2. How do I sign charges on someone?

You start by filing a police report. The crime / incident must have occurred within the city limits of Moss Point. Once a report is completed the court clerk or designee will type an affidavit regarding the specific charges.

Once the affidavit is filed it will then be reviewed by the Municipal Court Judge who will determine if a warrant will be issued. After the warrant is issued an arrest is made you will receive a subpoena to appear in court to testify. There is no fee to file charges.

3. How can I obtain a copy of a report?

Only the person whose name appears on the report can obtain a copy.

Incident Reports can be picked up at the Moss Point Police Department Record’s Division by the person who filed the report. Note: there is no fee for the individual who filed the incident report. If you are a defendant or suspect in a case, you will need to contact Municipal Court at 228-474-3644 about obtaining discovery.

Parking Lot Accidents are not recorded by officers on State Forms and can only be purchased in the Record’s Division at a cost of $10.00.

Accident Reports occurring on State Roadways are recorded by officers on State Forms. These reports can be purchased in person for $25.00 in the Record’s Division.

4. I need my fingerprints taken as part of an employment process, will the Moss Point Police Department fingerprint me?

We offer fingerprinting Monday through Friday between the hours of 8AM to 5PM.

Fingerprints are $15.00.

5. How much do reports cost?

- Roadway Accident Reports are $25.00.

- Parking Lot Accident Reports are $10.00.

- Incident Reports and relating reports are $10.00.

- Criminal History Background is $15.00

- Fingerprinting is $15.00.

6. How do I file a complaint on a Police employee?

Initial complaints may be reported to any on duty patrol supervisor. If you feel the supervisor was not able to assist you properly you may contact the Deputy Chief of Police directly at 474-4088. The Deputy Chief’s office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Complaints may be initially received verbally, in writing, in person, by telephone, by mail or by electronic means. The supervisor will give you a citizen complaint form with no questions asked where you may either fill it out at the police station or take it with you.

Once the police department receives your complaint it will be evaluated and assigned to an investigator if warranted.
