The City of Moss Point has announced a Public Hearing to discuss its proposed budget and proposed tax levies for the upcoming fiscal year 2026. The hearing will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at Moss Point City Hall, 4320 McInnis Avenue, Moss Point, Mississippi 39563.
This meeting represents an important opportunity for residents to engage with their city government and ensure their voices are part of the financial planning process.
For the current fiscal year, Moss Point is operating with projected total budget revenue of $20,720,290. Of that, 28 percent ($5,815,044) comes from ad valorem taxes.
Looking ahead, the proposed budget for fiscal year 2026 anticipates total projected revenue of $20,311,098. Of this amount, 30 percent ($6,142,640) would be financed through ad valorem taxes.
These numbers reflect the City’s effort to balance revenues while maintaining services for residents and businesses.
One of the key points of this year’s proposal is the decision to not increase the ad valorem tax millage rate above the current fiscal year’s rate. This means that residents will not see higher ad valorem taxes on homes, automobiles, utilities, business fixtures, equipment, or rental property, unless the assessed value of a property has increased.
This commitment provides stability for taxpayers while still supporting the city’s budgetary needs.
Public hearings are more than a legal requirement; they are a vital part of transparent and accountable governance. Citizens of Moss Point are encouraged to attend, speak, and even present tangible evidence regarding the proposed budget and tax levies. Every voice matters, and public input ensures that decisions are made with community interests at the forefront.
By participating in this hearing, residents have the chance to shape the financial direction of Moss Point for the year ahead. Public engagement strengthens the city, builds trust, and ensures that the needs of the community are reflected in its fiscal policies.
The City of Moss Point invites all citizens to be present, take part, and contribute to building a stronger, more transparent, and forward-facing future.
