Ms. Dumas was a cornerstone of the City of Moss Point’s municipal family
The City of Moss Point mourns the loss of Ms. Barbara Dumas, who passed away on January 23, 2026. Her passing marks a profound moment of sorrow for our city, our municipal staff, and the many residents whose lives were shaped by her quiet leadership and steadfast commitment to public service.
Ms. Dumas was a cornerstone of the City of Moss Point’s municipal family. For many years, she served the city with distinction, most notably in her role as Executive Assistant to the Mayor, where her professionalism, discernment, and institutional knowledge were indispensable to the effective operation of city government. She carried out her responsibilities with precision and humility, always mindful that the work of municipal service exists to support and uplift the community.
Those who worked alongside Ms. Dumas knew her as a servant leader in the truest sense of the word. She navigated complex responsibilities with calm resolve, exercised sound judgment in moments that required discretion, and approached every task with integrity and grace. Her steady presence in City Hall provided continuity, stability, and a sense of confidence that extended far beyond her job title.
Ms. Dumas’s impact on Moss Point cannot be measured solely by projects completed or years served. Her legacy is found in the relationships she built, the mentorship she offered to colleagues, and the standard of excellence she quietly upheld day after day. She understood that public service is rooted in accountability, respect, and care for others, and she lived those values consistently throughout her career.
Her contributions helped shape the internal culture of city government and supported the progress of Moss Point during times of growth and challenge alike. Long after her voice has fallen silent, her influence will remain evident in the work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to service that she exemplified.
On behalf of Billy Knight Sr., the Board of Aldermen, and the entire municipal staff, the City of Moss Point extends its deepest condolences to the Dumas family, her friends, and all who grieve her passing. We share in the community’s loss and express our gratitude for a life devoted to serving others with dignity and purpose.
The City invites residents to join us in honoring the memory of Ms. Barbara Dumas and in keeping her loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Her legacy of service, integrity, and compassion will continue to stand as a guiding example for Moss Point in the years ahead.
