Nine students from the City of Moss Point traveled to Jackson State University last Friday to represent their city on a statewide stage, and they did not disappoint.
The Moss Point Mayors Youth Leadership Council joined youth councils from cities across Mississippi for the 18th Annual Statewide Youth Leadership Summit, a two day event focused on developing the next generation of civic leaders. For Moss Point’s delegates, the trip was an opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills, connect with peers from other communities, and bring fresh ideas back home.
This year’s Moss Point delegation included Khloe Byrd, Morgan Bates, Kayla Maurice, Tracie Simmons, Reagan Pollard, Jamelan Spain, Gabrielle Fountain, Breland Burkes, and Hadiyah Webb. The council was accompanied by advisors Alderman Darius Wilson and Mrs. Miriam Spain, who have played a central role in guiding and supporting the council throughout the year.
Over the course of the summit, students participated in workshops designed to strengthen leadership skills, encourage civic engagement, and inspire personal growth. They also had the chance to build relationships with young leaders from other Mississippi cities, exchanging ideas and learning from each other’s experiences. Events like this plant seeds that grow long after the trip is over, and the connections these students made will serve them well as they continue stepping into leadership roles at home.
Sending nine students to a statewide summit takes more than enthusiasm. It takes real support from people and organizations willing to invest in the future of this city. The Moss Point Mayors Youth Leadership Council would like to thank the sponsors who made this trip possible:
Mayor Billy Knight Sr. and the Board of Aldermen, the Jackson County Board of Supervisors, T47 International, Quik Printz, Be the Change, and Bordos Danos and Pierce.
Their support sends a clear message to these young people: Moss Point believes in you, and your city is willing to back that belief with action.
The Mayors Youth Leadership Council continues to be one of the most meaningful investments the City of Moss Point makes in its young residents. Programs like this do not just develop leaders for tomorrow. They remind our students right now that their voices matter, their potential is real, and their city is paying attention.
Moss Point is proud of every single one of these delegates. 💙
