Information you give us

When you contact the Mayor's office, request a meeting, apply for a job, request a public record, report an issue, register for a parks or recreation program, book a facility, volunteer, or submit an event, you may provide your name, email address, phone number, mailing or physical address, and the details of your request. Some services ask for more, for example:

• Employment applications may include your Social Security number, driver's license number, and work history.
• Program registration may include information about participants, including minor children, along with emergency contacts.
• Issue reports may include a location or address and any photos you choose to upload.

Payment information

When you pay for a program or facility, your payment is processed securely by our payment provider, Stripe. The City does not collect or store your full card number.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our servers and analytics tools record standard technical details such as your IP address, browser type, device, the pages you view, and the site that referred you. This is gathered through cookies and similar technologies to help us operate, secure, and improve the site.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

• Respond to your questions and requests
• Deliver City programs, services, and benefits
• Process registrations, applications, and payments
• Communicate with you about your request or City business
• Maintain records as required by law
• Protect the security and integrity of our systems
• Understand and improve how our services are used

How we share information

The City does not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to operate, including with:

• Service providers that help us run our services, such as our payment processor (Stripe), email and notification delivery, website hosting, and analytics, under appropriate safeguards.
• City departments and officials who need it to handle your request.
• The public, where required by law. Mississippi is an open records state. Information you submit to the City may be subject to disclosure under the Mississippi Public Records Act, except where the law protects it. We withhold sensitive identifiers, such as Social Security numbers, from public disclosure.
• Others when required, to comply with the law, respond to lawful requests, or protect the rights, property, and safety of residents, City staff, and the public.

How we protect your information

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the information you share with us. Sensitive information, such as Social Security numbers submitted through our employment portal, is encrypted. Our sites are served over secure HTTPS connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to limit access to those who need it.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies are small files placed on your device that help websites function and remember preferences. We use cookies and analytics services to keep the site working, to keep it secure, and to understand how visitors use it so we can improve it. You can control or disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well without them.

Children's privacy

Some City programs serve youth, and registration for those programs may include information about minors provided by a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you believe a child has provided us information without consent, please contact us and we will remove it.

Links to other sites

Our website links to other websites and services, including City service applications, partner agencies, and social media. This policy does not cover those sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

Your choices

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of information you submitted to the City by contacting us, subject to records retention and public records law. You may also stop non-essential emails by following the instructions in the message, and you can manage cookies through your browser. Information the City must keep for recordkeeping or legal compliance may be retained even after a deletion request.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy, or as required by Mississippi public records and records retention laws, after which it is securely disposed of.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page, and significant changes will be posted here.
