Chief Stevenson Officially Sworn In as Chief of the Moss Point Police Department
A Veteran Law Enforcement Leader with Decades of Experience Takes the Helm
During the City of Moss Point’s Board Meeting held last night, Dennis Stevenson was formally voted in and sworn in as Chief of the Moss Point Police Department, solidifying his role following months of service as Interim Chief.
Chief Stevenson brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience to the position, with a career that spans municipal policing, state level enforcement, and departmental leadership. His appointment reflects both his professional qualifications and the confidence placed in him by city leadership to guide the department forward.
Chief Stevenson began his career in law enforcement with the Biloxi Police Department, where he gained hands on experience in patrol operations and community based policing. He later served with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, contributing to statewide public safety efforts and working alongside multiple agencies across the region. These roles provided him with a broad operational perspective that has shaped his leadership approach.
In October 2025, Chief Stevenson was appointed Interim Chief of the Moss Point Police Department during a period of transition. Throughout his interim service, he focused on maintaining continuity, supporting department personnel, and ensuring the safety of the community remained the top priority. His steady leadership during that time played a key role in the Board’s decision to make the appointment permanent.
The swearing in ceremony was attended by city officials, department leadership, family members, and members of the community, marking a significant moment for the department and the city as a whole.
