The City of Moss Point invites residents to take part in two Moss Point CDBG public hearings this summer, where the community will help decide how the city spends its 2026 federal Community Development Block Grant funds. The hearings open the floor on the city’s draft 2026 Annual Action Plan, proposed amendments to its Consolidated Plan, and a review of how the city has put earlier grant dollars to work.

City of Moss Point invitation to Community Development Block Grant public hearings on June 18 and July 9, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. at Moss Point City Hall
Both hearings begin at 4:00 p.m. at Moss Point City Hall, 4320 McInnis Avenue.

As a HUD Entitlement Community, Moss Point expects to receive about $97,999 in Community Development Block Grant funds for the 2026 program year. Federal rules require that the money benefit low- and moderate-income residents, help prevent or remove blight, or meet an urgent community need. The residents who show up and speak shape where those dollars go.

When and where the Moss Point CDBG public hearings happen

The City will hold both hearings at Moss Point City Hall, 4320 McInnis Avenue, starting at 4:00 p.m.

  • First hearing: Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.
  • Second hearing: Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.

Everyone is welcome, and the City is eager to hear from low- and moderate-income households, people with disabilities, residents of public and assisted housing, and anyone with a stake in how Moss Point grows.

What the hearings will cover

Residents will hear about, and weigh in on, several items tied to the grant program and how its funds are spent:

  • Proposed changes to the economic development goals in the City’s 2022 to 2026 Consolidated Plan
  • Proposed changes to the economic development goals in the 2026 Annual Action Plan
  • A draft 2026 Annual Action Plan that aligns with the 2022 to 2026 Consolidated Plan
  • Substantial amendments to the 2024 Annual Action Plan

Economic development runs through most of these updates, and it remains a central focus for the City. Commercial growth is what helps pay for everyday services like police, fire, and public works, so choices about where grant dollars land carry real weight for years to come.

How to comment, and the deadlines that matter

Residents can speak during either hearing or send written comments by mail or hand delivery. Two comment periods are open, each with its own deadline:

  • 2026 Annual Action Plan: 30-day comment period, with written comments due by Monday, August 10, 2026
  • 2023 to 2025 CAPERs: 15-day comment period, with written comments due by Thursday, July 9, 2026

The CAPER, short for the Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report, is the City’s report to HUD on how past grant funds were used. Written comments should go to LaTanya Wilson, Community Development Director, City of Moss Point Community Development, 4320 McInnis Avenue, Moss Point, MS 39563, or by phone at 601-278-1985 or email at [email protected]. The City will consider every comment, spoken or written, as it finalizes its 2026 Annual Action Plan, CAPER, and any Consolidated Plan amendments.

Accessibility and language assistance

The hearings take place at an ADA-accessible location. Residents who need auxiliary aids or services, such as a sign language interpreter, an assistive listening device, or large-print materials, should contact LaTanya Wilson at least five business days before a hearing so arrangements can be made. The City provides language assistance free of charge and can supply hearing materials in other languages on request. La asistencia de idioma está disponible de forma gratuita para los residentes que no hablan inglés.
