The Mississippi Development Authority brings three new recovery programs to Pelican Landing on July 16, with funding for storm-affected homes and businesses.

More than two years after tornadoes and straight-line winds swept across Mississippi, some Moss Point families and business owners are still working to rebuild. Help is on the way, and it is coming to town. On Thursday, July 16, the Mississippi Development Authority will host a community meeting on Moss Point tornado recovery, with three new programs that put federal funding behind repairing homes, restoring rentals, and getting storm-hit businesses back on their feet.

The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at Pelican Landing Moss Point, 6217 MS-613. It is free and open to the public. If you own a home, rent, or run a small business that a storm touched, this evening is for you.

Three programs behind Moss Point tornado recovery

The programs are part of Mississippi’s federally funded recovery effort. In 2025, HUD Secretary Scott Turner approved a state action plan directing nearly $135 million in Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery funds to communities hit by the 2023 and 2024 storms. Each of the three programs on the agenda tackles a different corner of that recovery.

The Business Recovery and Revitalization Program (BRRP) sends direct federal assistance to eligible small businesses and microenterprises damaged by the tornadoes and straight-line winds. For a city that counts local jobs and a stronger tax base among its top priorities, it is a practical way to help storm-affected businesses reopen, keep people working, and grow again.

The Workforce Housing Program (WHP) funds the development of new, affordable single-family homes in areas where recovery is expected to bring new jobs. The idea is simple. As work returns, people need somewhere nearby and affordable to live.

The Affordable Rental Housing Program (ARHP) puts federal dollars toward restoring and preserving affordable single-family rentals across the impacted areas. It covers repairing or rebuilding storm-damaged rental homes and fixing up vacant houses so they can return to safe, affordable use, which keeps families housed and neighborhoods whole.

Why this meeting matters for Moss Point

Recovering from a disaster is rarely something a household or a small business can manage alone, and figuring out which door to knock on is often the hardest part. July 16 is the chance to hear straight from the people who run these programs, ask the questions that fit your own situation, and find out what you may qualify for. If you are not sure a program applies to you, come anyway. Helping you find the right door is exactly what the evening is for.

Stronger neighborhoods and a healthier local economy sit at the center of the City’s ongoing work, from storm recovery to the wider effort you can follow on the Investment In Moss Point page. Programs like these give residents and business owners a real next step to take.
